Are you a proper wargamer?

This brilliant post from Phil's The Wargaming Site is gone viral over the Internet and I cannot resist the temptation to take the test. The question is whether you're or not a proper wargamer. So there goes the answers to the  questions and judge for yourselves if I merit being called a wargamer.

* Spent at least £500 on figures / tanks - and you get extra kudos for every £500 you've spent
Hmmm... probably close to this sum this year but only because I'm really controlling my budget in these difficult economic times; previous years average probably closer to 700-800€... :-)

* Pricked your finger or thumb on a pike block - several times
Ha! Haven't played 30 Years War ever; but this reminds me the 15mm Republican Army I owned back in the 80s armed with needles to replace their weak lead pilum and hasta... ouch!

* Tried at least 10 different rule sets and vowed never to play half of them ever again
Only 10??? After 35 years wargaming I cannot remember the WRGs, DBAs, DBMs, Tapletops, WABs, Warhammers, Command Decisions, Blitkrieg Commander...

* Bought an army off EBay
Not yet ther

* Sold an army on EBay
Neither yet there

* spent months painting an army - then used it in anger once
Well not strictly once, but after the chain of defeats and not a sigle victory with my lovingly painted Hittite Army playing WAB, it was stored in a box and put in the cellar... that was like 4 years ago and they never saw the light again

* tried several different periods and genres
You guess, anything from chasing dinosaurs in the pre-prehistoric times until flying spaceships in the soooo distant future

* dropped a box of figures on the floor from a great height
... and almost lose a friend...

* lost a battle on the last throw of the dice
Cannot remember if the last dice strcitly speaking, but a reversal in the final few turns at least a copule of times

* made at least one enemy for life
NO!

* had a proper, stand up argument over a wargamers table
Hmmm... no that I can remember; true I look for reasonsable and friendly players all the time and fly away from the most difficult characters

* thrown a dice across a room
Again, NO.. My God! Am I really too civilised???

* rebased an army for a different rule set
Even worse, rebased the SAME army at least three times: a Napoleonic army based for V&B, changed to POW and back again to V&B... the funny thing is that I have ended up playing Lasalle (2 years now) but I efuse to change the basing again... the army remains stored in a cupboard with no (gaming) future in sight.

* inflicted a whopping defeat on an opponent
Yes, yes, YEES!

* suffered an embarrassing defeat due to a stupid tactical decision
Yes!! Sending chariots without supporting runners or light infantry ahead

* joined a wargamers club
I'm actually one of the founders,  actually my club carnet number is 002

* bought a ton of lead that remains unpainted
Lead?... and plastic, and resin...

* been to a wargamers show
Salute  in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2012

* have more dice than is logical or necessary to own - and have used most of them
Around 100 in my dice box at first galnce, of all shapes, sizes and colours...and I keep buying more everytime I enter into the equivalent to the "Poundland" shops in the UK (here in Spain called "el chino del barrio")

* have taken boxes of troops down to a club just to show them off to your mates
OMG! How did you know???  Same level of excitement than showing the latest Playboy issue smugled from home to my school mates when I was a teenager!!!

So, how do you think I've scored???

  5. You are most definitely a wargamer, Benito, most definately. Not even a shadow of doubt, even before I read your answers! And as for "only" 10 rule sets....yes, I could see you'd be amused by that question!!

  8. A ver, cuenta cuotas a clubs (20€ mes en mi caso), publicaciones "profesionales" (WSS, WI), literatura, DVDs especializados, pintura, pinceles y además las figuras/carros y verás cómo sí llegas
