Sad Day today

It is a democratic decision. I do not share but must respect.
Fear that this is just the beginning

  1. Well as a Yank ... I can only watch and scratch my head with disbelief and bewilderment (but that is typical isn't it ... hehe). We American's will always be the best of friends with the Brits, be yea in or out of the EU. Hang in there, you have a great nation, that will find a way forward and manage to overcome and recover.

    1. Having just returned from Washington, where I had some very interesting talks with some very nice people, they were very envious that we had the freedom to vote on such an important issue. Perhaps if the USA was allowed a free vote on gun control you wouldnt keep murdering each other and the Republican Senate would keep blocking commonsense legislation.

    2. As a U.S. Citizen I support the right to own and bare arms, as does the majority citizens' in the United States of America. Gun control is a fallacy. Murders associated with firearms are committed by criminals that do not obey law; the majority of which using weapons obtained illegally.
Overall, murders associated with firearms have been on a steady decline in the U.S.A. since peaking in 1993.

"Common sense" legislation cannot impinge on our Bill of Rights, no matter what neo-Marxist leftists claim.

      Rant Off.

    1. I agree, it was the best long term decision for the UK.

    2. Sad to me
Not trying to make a political statement, just expressing a sentiment.
We in Spain have been out of Europe for may decades after a fascist dictator won a bloody civil war.
Europe was deraly beloved and we joined the (then) European Community it was like coming from the Dark Ages in the Age of Light. Many peolpe in my country still remember perfectly well when our President of the Government (Felipe González) signed the Treaty in a public event and many tears were shed by many Spaniards.
Now I feel that this is the first day of declining of the European Union.

You wish what you don't have; others tend to snub what they have.

    3. Simon, I can only wish you luck. I lived 6 years in London and have very good memories ans some good friends there.

    4. I am a Londoner at heart. I lived there for 48 years before moving to West Berkshire. we can now trade freely with the entire world. The EU stopped this and many other things. The EU has done Spain or anyone else (Greece, Italy etc) no favours.

    5. I don't know others but in Spain we have experienced the best economic 3 decades of our history since we joined the EU

  3. Sadly the worst impacts of this decision will not be evident for many years to come, and when they become obvious to the public it will be too late to fix them (typical of emotionally charged decision making). The rise of right wing "yahoo's" is certainly not limited to the UK (or what might actually just be England + Wales if the Scots and northern Irish get their way), but the extremist parties across Europe will be energized by this decision. Not the end of the world, but definitely a "left turn" in history for Europe and the UK. The geopolitical situation in Europe was already taking a turn for the worst and this vote will only further that downturn.

Ok ... wargaming blog ... shouldn't be going "political" here but couldn't help it. This also strikes home as the US public gets ready to blow off it's left or right foot in the upcoming election here.

  4. Dear Jay,
I would like to think that I didnt make an emotionally charged voting decision, and I certainly dont accept the Right wing jibe. Already the establishment are laying down reasons why the electorate voted against their wishes, and like you racism is the largest scream. Personally I look on my vote as a cry for a return to democracy, and hopefully a chance for my grandchildren to live in a country where they can vote out bad government. Clearly you were happy with the EU version of events. As for the Scots, I credit them with much more intelligence and they will recognise where their best interest are.

    1. Like Robbie, I voted the way I did for my Grandchildrens future. We have our Democracy back. They will not have to abide by decisions made by nameless, faceless Eurocrats in Brussels. The EU is falling to bits anyway.

  5. That's democracy for you. Living in the US as I do now I stayed out of the whole debate, but now I'll say I'm a Socialist and never did like the EU.

  6. I personally feel very sad and even ashamed by this step backwards into isolationism and introversion, which nearly half the electorate clearly rejected. I feel particularly sad on behalf of all the younger people, including my kids, who will be disadvantaged by this decision, taken in many instances by the older generation. I hope Boris and Gove get dumped with the paperwork...serve them right.

    1. Can we just lay a lie to bed please.
I certainly didnt vote for isolationism, and as for introversion,I do enjoy a good think before I act, but having made a decision I would like to think its been made for the right reasons. I feel sorry for young people, but not because we have come out of the EU. I dont know where you live, but I live in the North East of England, you know that Socialist stronghold of zero hours contracts , hairdressers, and zero expectations.Forty years on from first voting to join I am still waiting for some meaningful work to arrive here for my children. Oh but thats right, they had to move to Reading to find work.So yes I am OLD, so do what the emoting media are now demanding, disenfranchise me, and others like me, then take another referendum and get the 'right' decision, because clearly in the EU, that's how democracy works. Now that would be real democracy, even better, open up a few camps and ram everyone over 60 in them........ rant over.

    2. Boggler. You know the rest of the world doesn't belong to the EU without us being isolationist or disadvantaged.
