My son Alex and I went to our first X-Wing competition today, organised by a local games shop in our neighbourhood called "Mi Tesoro" (= Gollum's "my precious" in Spanish). This a small but extremely well-supplied shop run by brothers Juan and Josema, two very nice chaps and where my son spends his Friday evenings after school playing Magic.

Nonetheless, we had a lot of fun, the games were very friendly and all the participants were happy to share tactics and squadron formation ideas with us, so at the end of the day I think we significantly moved ahead in our learning curve.
Furthermore, Alex is now fully engaged in the game (a victory for the father!) to the extent that he decided to invest his monthly allowance in the recently released Slave 1 model.
Given the shop's space constraints, we could not use our game mat which attracted a lot of attention and good comments from the participants, as well as our recently acquired card box, both made by Lex Stormwalker, a Spanish X-Wing aficionado, blogger and entrepreneur with an interesting online shop.
Now some photos from the three games played...
... and the winners with Víctor, from Edge Games Spain (the official distributor in our country)
Looks like a lot of fun. It's great that you have managed to show your son how great the hobby can be.
ReplyDeleteThose accessories by Lex look awesome. I wonder what the shipping would look like to the US. Something to think about.
Yes, I'll be looking to start playing Wings of War sometime in the last quarter of this year.
DeleteNot sure if this guy Lex serves outside the European Union.
It does look a lot of fun!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely!!
DeleteSounds as a very nice gaming day !
ReplyDeleteMight have to get mi some of those my self, but I have so far recisted the temtation...
Best regards Michael
C'mon!! Join the Dark Side my young Padawan...
DeleteBrilliant report of having fun. Your son and you did really well.
ReplyDeleteI concede it was fun... not sure that we did well at all. Anyway, we've just finished abother game at home this afternoon applying the tactics learnt this morning
ReplyDeletePues a ello!! Cuando hacemos reunión de coordinación?
DeleteLooks great. Iv just picked up some of the new A-wings. This is a cracking game and glad you and your son enjoyed the tournament.
ReplyDeleteI saw one player with this small ship and they can do wonders in a game. I'll be buying a model next month: I cannot keep spending so much money in this game, I ned to rationalize a bit; this month is Father's Day (19th march) and I have "suggested" my wife that the Millenium Falcon will be a very nice gift... :-)
