Dragons Back from London (II) - Bovington WWI Material

In this first instalment, I will show the photos of the First World War collection at Bovington

Overview of Main Hall
Little Willie, Mother/Father of all tanks

Some views of the British Mark IV and Mark III respectively, the most common steel beasts in the WWI battlefields.

Some views of an experimental Mark V tank, that did not see service in the War

This is an interesting recent acquisition: the 1:1 Mark V model used in the film Warhorse. Not real, but very realistic piece, it will used by the Museum for exhibition purposes in order to preserve the original contemporary material.

Two other well known machines of WWI tank aficionados: the FT 17 and the Whippet

Uniforms, weapons and miscellaneous material

Finally some photos of the Trench Experience exhibition

In the next entries, I'll post the material for the period between wars, the IIWW (probably by German and Allied due to the large amount of graphic material) and will conclude with a postwar armour section.

  2. Brilliant pictures of my favorite museum. I was there just a few weeks ago to see the Tiger Tank running for the first time since it restoration. Glad you enjoyed your visit to the UK and it was good to see you at Salute.
