Road Works Ahead

Last weekend I spent a day at my mother's summer house. I wasn't really expecting to do nothing except going for a walk in the mountains and read some Chain of Command related stuff in preparation for the September game season. However... I felt the sudden need to do something wargaming related. So I entered the house garage and decided to experiment with the materials available there.

I found some old cork tiles and thought it could be a good base to do some buildings... no wait, some roads, even better!!. You always need lots of roads, don't you?.. and in my club we have not a lot of good scenery for roads. So there I did go with an initial test before scaling to up "industrial" production

1. Cork, metal ruler and cutter

2. Cut 3 stripes:  8 x 20 cm

3. Mix glue, sand, water and plaster
4. Spread a generous amount of mix and carve some wheel marks
This was my progress that day. The mix takes hours to get dry before attempting the painting phase and I wanted also to check if the mix was going to bend or not the cork strip. I'll return this weekend to see how it ended up and will post the results next week here

  1. How flexible are the roads once dry? Will they lay over hills? How thick do they end up being?

    1. Hi Chris, just working today Saturday on these pieces. No they are not flexible at all but they do not seem to bend as I feared innitially. They are 0.5cm thick.

  2. Looks Great Benito. We realy need six or seven metres of roads. I hope this experiment works and we can produce more and more roads.
I have just finished 9 metres of normandy bocage for Chain of Command. It's my better modeling work without no doubt.

  5. I can see a lot of us are in a process of terraforming, in this moment... Very nice, and really useful for any game!
